Having grown up in a small town in Kansas and witnessing first hand the decay which is taking place in our rural areas I have become fascinated with decay both urban and rural. Photographing places which once thrived but now are derelict and abandoned is one of my favorite things to do here in Kansas City during my free time. Since I live in downtown KC I am close to the areas with the most decay.
Yesterday I went on a journey through an area I have photographed before, the West Bottoms. The West Bottoms is an area littered with decay. It was once home to the stock yards which made Kansas City famous. Now it is home to brick warehouses, abandoned vehicles, and many other things we photographers love capturing.
Below are a few pictures from my recent journey. They were all taken at an abandoned garage on the far north side of the area.
