My Favorite Photography Blogs

Strobist
Strobist.com is your one stop shop for all things lighting. A strobist is commonly referred to as someone who utilizes small off-camera flashes known as strobes, instead of large and bulky studio lighting equipment.

Strobist.com includes over 1,000 articles on the subject of lighting. Strobist.com even offers two online tutorials focused on using off-camera flashes; Lighting 101 and Lighting 102. I must say each of these tutorials are very extensive and well worth the time it takes to go through them.

Additionally, strobist includes on-assignment posts which give readers an inside look at how off-camera lighting is used in a real life setting.

I would highly recommend strobist.com to anyone seriously considering taking a plunge into off-camera lighting. You will learn loads!

Digital Photography School
Digital Photography School is the photography blog of one of the most well known professional bloggers on the web today, Darren Rowse. Darren is also the man behind the highly successful problogger.net.

Digital Photography School is devoted to serving the beginner to intermediate digital photographer. The posts at DPS are commonly “how to” posts which give readers tips and tricks on how to maximize their photography.

Overall the site is very well done and updated quite often. I would recommend this blog to any digital photography enthusiast from beginner to expert.

Digital Photography Review
Digital Photography Review is your one stop shop for reviews on almost every digital camera on the market today. Digital Photography Review provides very in depth reviews which provide the reader much needed knowledge as they prepare to purchase or upgrade to a new digital camera.

DPreview is also home to one of the most active photography forums on the web. Here you can gain knowledge and interact with photographers from around the world. There are forums which target the beginner to the expert their are also forums devoted to users of the most popular camera manufacturers out there. All in all these forums are very helpful, if your lucky you just might find a good deal from someone trying to sell old gear on the forums.

This site is a must read for anyone considering purchasing a new camera.

National Geographic
While it is not exactly a blog this site is my go to source of inspiration and motivation, after flickr of course.

National Geographic offers a number of galleries from locations around the world, videos focusing photographic tips, photo expeditions and many other videos any photographer would find interesting.

A number of National Geographic photographers keep blogs while they are on assignment, these blogs are very interesting and give you a taste of what these photographers go through while on assignment.

Nat Geo also holds reader photography contests, additionally the site includes a reader gallery where readers can submit their images to be seen in the gallery.

All in all the National Geographic photography site is very cool and a good way to procrastinate while at work or school.

While there are loads of photography blogs out there these just happen to be the ones I frequent most often. As this blog begins to grow I will make it a priority to pass along new and interesting photography blogs to readers.
